Hi Friends,
We are in Budapest at the moment, enjoying time with old friends and revisiting some of our favorite spots. Some of the best things to here include sprinkling paprikas on your gulyas while enjoying a Gypsy csardas. So the place to do all three of those things is right here at the Arany Hordo Vendeglo.

It is in the old Castle District of the city. It's not tourist season for a few more months, so some of the places up here are closed for the winter, but these guys were happy enough to have us in. We realized that most people don't start supper until well after 7:00, so when we arrived it was just us and the live entertainment. These guys were pretty good, and most accomodating. Maybe they wanted tips. Anyway, watch this fellow below. He sat stoicly in the corner all evening playing his little accompaniment until someone requested a "csardas"dance.  Then he started to come out of his shell. Until then, we were pretty sure he was the Godfather.  They did actually play the theme to The Godfather with a pretty rough direct modulation to a major key for My Favorite Things from Sound of Music. We got a kick out of that.

We topped it all off with a bit of ice cream--a lot of ice cream, actually.

And that was the end of our adventures for February 15. More to follow...

Sounds like you are having a grand time! That's fun that you can re-visit so many places. Thanks for the update! Thanks for taking the packages over to Allyn! Blessings ~ Em

Ah, the old "Godfather to Favorite Things" transition.... Did you get to Veszprem? We've never been there but would like to see Lake Balaton someday. We stayed with a local family thru the IBUSZ program - that was cheap and fun. Is it still like in teh Iron Curtain days, where you can buy black market forints at about %250% the official rate -- IF you can use them all up b4 you leave, and IF you don't buy from an undercover agent and end up in Spandau prison?
